Citational Practice Statements

Students wrote a statement of citational practice. Students were asked to think about their own citational practice and to externalize that practice by writing a statement, akin to how an artist will often accompany their work with an artist’s statement. We were inspired by this piece by “Citation” by K.A. Mariner in the Feminist Anthropology Journal that we read at the beginning of the semester. MacLeod’s piece, on citing indigenous elders, “More Than Personal Communication” was also instructive. Here are the student’s statements of principle/praxis for citation that they feel work for them.
